Defenseman Dylan Samberg scored 3:30 into overtime as the visiting Winnipeg Jets capped a dizzying late-game flourish to record a 5-4 victory over the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday.
The Jets overcame a 4-0 deficit by scoring four times in a stretch of 2:06 late in the third period.
Samberg scored from the right circle in overtime as Winnipeg snapped a nine-game winless skid (0-7-2) and made NHL history to boot.
The Jets recorded the latest four-goal comeback in NHL history, eclipsing the previous mark set by the Los Angeles Kings on Nov. 10, 2007. The Kings began their comeback with 7:14 remaining in their game.
With Montreal holding a 4-0 lead, Tyrel Bauer scored from the outer edge of the left circle for his first career NHL goal with 2:39 remaining in the third period.
Morgan Barron converted a 2-on-1 rush and Kyle Connor unleashed a laser 57 seconds later before the latter converted deep in the right circle to forge a 4-4 tie with 33 seconds left in regulation.
Stuart Skinner made 18 saves to help the Jets record their first win since a 5-2 decision over the Minnesota Wild on Oct. 13.
Cole Caufield scored a pair of power-play goals and Josh Anderson and fourth-liner Owen Beck also tallied for the Canadiens.
Jacob Fowler turned aside 42 shots in the loss.
Beck wired a sharp wrist shot from the left circle to open the scoring 3:05 into the first period. The goal was Beck’s first of the season and second of his career.
Arber and Florian Xhekaj each notched an assist, becoming the first set of brothers to notch a point on the same goal for the Canadiens since Andrei and Sergei Kostitsyn on Jan. 17, 2009.
Anderson corralled a loose puck along the right-wing boards, skated across the slot and sent a backhand shot past a screened Skinner to give Montreal a 2-0 lead with 1:42 remaining in the first period. The goal was his seventh in 15 games this season after totaling 14 in 72 games in 2025-26.
With his team on a 5-on-3 power play, defenseman Noah Dobson’s blast from just outside the right circle produced a juicy rebound that Caufield converted from the doorstep to increase the Canadiens’ advantage to 3-0.
Caufield scored from a sharp angle along the goal line just 46 seconds into the third period to cap his two-goal performance. The goal was his team-leading 10th of the season and fourth in his last three games.
