Mark Stone scored his second career regular-season hat trick and Jack Eichel had a short-handed goal and two assists as the Vegas Golden Knights cruised to a 6-2 victory over the Calgary Flames on Thursday in Las Vegas.
Ivan Barbashev tied his career high with three assists, Mitch Marner had two assists and Brett Howden and Braeden Bowman also scored goals for Vegas, which earned its sixth win in the past seven games.
Carter Hart made 28 saves for the Golden Knights, who improved to 14-2-0 all-time against Calgary in Las Vegas.
Jake Middleton and Matt Coronato scored and Dustin Wolf finished with 27 saves for the Flames, who fell to 1-6-0 on the season.
Vegas jumped out to a 1-0 lead just 25 seconds into the game when Howden scored. Marner stole the puck along the right boards and then passed it to Howden rushing down the left wing, where he fired a wrist shot past Wolf’s glove side and into the top right corner of the net.
The Golden Knights extended the margin to 2-0 midway through the first period. Eichel scooped the puck up by the left boards, broke in and ripped a wrist shot past Wolf’s glove side for his fourth career short-handed goal.
Calgary pulled within 2-1 midway through the second period on a short-handed goal by Middleton, who finished an odd-man rush with a wrist shot past Hart’s glove side. It was his first goal with the Flames.
Vegas answered with a power-play goal 48 seconds later to make it 3-1. Bowman’s one-timer from the high slot came off a Barbashev pass from the goal line.
Stone extended the lead to 4-1 early in the third period when he tapped in Eichel’s crossing pass on the backdoor by the right post. He made it 5-1 at the 12:10 mark when he backhanded in a rebound, and then completed the natural hat trick when he ripped a wrist shot off a Eichel pass inside the far post for his team-leading sixth goal.
Coronato finished the scoring by netting a power-play goal with 1:20 remaining.
